Survey Finds Many Want Sandy Hook Memorial, Open Forum Tonight

The commission will have an open forum on the matter of a memorial tonight and next week.

A recent survey found that about 90 percent of Sandy Hook staff and parents want a memorial for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission divulged the results of surveys at its January meeting. About 70 percent of people would like the memorial to be outside and running water was a big trend, according to meeting minutes. Some also wanted to do something with Fairfield Hills or start scholarship funds as memorials.

There will be an open outreach meetings held at Newtown High School on Jan. 20 and Jan. 29, both at 7 p.m. The meetings will be held in the lecture hall.
