Suspect Arrested In Sexual Assault Case: Newtown Police

NEWTOWN, CT — A 33-year-old Trumbull man was arrested on a warrant Friday by Newtown police in connection with a sexual assault case, according to authorities.

Shawn Santoro, of Broadway Road, was charged with second-degree sexual assault in what police called a "complex investigation" that took several months to complete.

Details of the case were not disclosed, but members of the department's Patrol Division and Detective Bureau were involved in the investigation, said Newtown Police Sgt. Jeff Silver.

"These investigations can be very difficult, and the officers did an exemplary job," Silver said in a statement.

Santoro was released after posting a $100,000 surety bond, and he is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Feb. 1.
