UPDATE: Causes Determined for Newtown Restaurant Crash
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Monday
NEWTOWN, CT — Police are reporting that the SUV that crashed into a restaurant Monday afternoon on South Main Street had swerved to avoid another vehicle.
The driver, Douglas E. Gabel, 59, of Monroe, was driving northbound on Route 25 when he had to abruptly turn right into the driveway of King’s Breakfast & Lunch on South Main Street to avoid hitting a car driven by Theodore E. Shear, 78, of Bridgeport. Shear was moving southbound and had turned left into the driveway just ahead of Gabel.
Gabel's SUV continued through the parking lot, striking the exterior wall of the restaurant, according to police.

One person inside the restaurant was injured, but not seriously. Emergency personnel from Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and Botsford Fire Rescue also responded.
Shear was issued an infraction for failing to grant right-of-way.
