Teen Seriously Injured In High-Speed I-84 Crash In Newtown: State Police
A 16-year-old boy sustained suspected life-threatening injuries and was unresponsive at the scene, according to police.
NEWTOWN, CT — A Wallingford teenager suffered serious injuries in a high-speed crash on Interstate 84 in Newtown on Sunday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
The crash occurred around 3:49 p.m. on I-84 eastbound near Exit 13, police said. Investigators determined that a 2009 Honda Civic traveling in the left lane was moving at a high speed when a 2015 Toyota RAV4 in the right lane cut in front of it and abruptly applied the brakes.
Police said the Honda’s driver lost control, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck a jersey barrier on the right shoulder of the highway. The Toyota fled the scene but was later located, police said.

A 16-year-old Wallingford boy in the Honda sustained suspected life-threatening injuries and was unresponsive at the scene, according to police. The 18-year-old Meriden driver and another 14-year-old Wallingford passenger had minor injuries. All were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old New York man, was not injured.

The incident temporarily closed I-84 east and remains under investigation.
