Town Committee Eyes Commercial Development in Newtown

The Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee will begin deliberating about commercial development of the property in January

NEWTOWN, CT — The Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee will begin deliberating about commercial development of the property in January, the town has announced on its website.

In July, the Board of Selectmen created a Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee as required by the current master plan.

On Wednesday, Jan. 9, the committee will host a discussion about commercial development with two local developers and a commercial real estate expert. This meeting will have time for public input both before and after the discussion. On Tuesday, Jan. 22, the public is invited to discuss their current thoughts about commercial uses as well as other uses not currently available on the campus. Both meetings start at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center. Full agendas will be available on the town website.

Since its creation this summer, the committee has been learning about the history and current status of the property and has begun a set of discussions to understand current and potential future uses for the property. These discussions are intended to provide context to the committee members both to help guide the subsequent public engagement efforts expected in the spring of 2019 and to ensure that past and current experiences and data are a part of the final deliberation process.
