NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown theater company is looking to the public to help them chill out.

The Town Players of Newtown are raising money online to fix their "very old" air conditioning unit, which has started leaking all over the stage, according to the group's GoFundMe page.

"Our roof is also not happy and has a tarp to prove it," posted Stefanie Rosenberg, who is organizing the campaign.

The group has "the honor and distinction of being the longest running community theater in Connecticut," according to its webpage. It will be mounting Agatha Christie's classic "A Murder is Announced" on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from August 11 through 26.

Auditions for "Dracula" are scheduled for August 13-14, and many more shows are on tap through the fall and 2024, the group promises.

But first there's the matter of that air conditioner.

"Any donation will help make an impact and help us keep performing during the hot weather and literally keep the roof over our heads," Rosenberg said.

$1,280 from 27 donations, towards a $20,000 goal, has been raised in the first ten days of the fundraising drive.
