Two Fatal Motorcycle Crashes In Newtown: Police

The crashes occurred on Riverside Road, and on Sugar Street near Dodgingtown Road.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department responded to two separate fatal motorcycle crashes over the weekend.

On Friday, shortly before 11 a.m., officers answered a call about a motorcycle off the road in the area of 87 Riverside Road. The driver, Ryan Smith, 24, of Enfield, was pronounced dead at the site of the single-vehicle crash. Newtown police said that a cooperative witness saw the crash, and expect no charges to be filed.

At around 5:20 pm. on Saturday, police responded to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and car on Sugar Street near Dodgingtown Road. Motorcyclist Harvey Lopez, 25, of New Haven, was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital. The other motorist remained at the scene and was cooperating with the police, who said they expected no charges to be filed,
