Underage Drinking Party, 'Urban Explorer', Top Newtown Police Blotter

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department thwarted an underage drinking party and are investigating a hit-and-run caught — almost entirely— on a surveillance camera.
On Aug. 20, Newtown police report a 2018 Ram 1500 Laramie rear-ended a 2015 Audi Q5 traveling northbound on South Main Street, near the intersection with Country Club Road. The Audi driver, a Maine resident, complained of lower back pain, but declined medical attention, according to police. The Laramie driver, from Naugatuck, was cited for failing to keep a reasonable distance apart.
That Main Street/Country Club Road intersection was the scene of an accident involving three cars on Aug. 23. A 2003 Toyota Corolla being driven northbound on South Main Street by a Newtown man hit a Monroe woman driving a Mini-Cooper in the opposite direction, police said. The collision sent the Mini Cooper into a 2024 Chevrolet that was stopped, facing southbound.

The Toyota driver, her passenger, and the two women in the Mini-Cooper were all taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Police cited the Toyota driver for failing to grant right of way when making a left turn.
Nobody was injured on Aug. 20 when the trailer of an American Express truck shattered the rear window of a 2009 Honda Civic while trying to make a turn into a parking lot at Church Hill Road, according to police.

There were no injuries reported on Aug. 30 when a Honda Element EX hit a Dodge Grand Canyon along Church Hill Road. Police cited the Honda driver, a Southbury man, with failure to grant right of way when turning left.
Officers dispatched at approximately 11:26 p.m. on Aug. 24 for a loud music complaint on Bradley Lane discovered a house party with underage drinking, according to their report. They issued a misdemeanor summons to a 56-year-old man for permitting a minor to possess liquor and failing to halt possession of liquor. The man has been scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Sept. 10.
Police are still looking for the driver of a red older model Subaru 4-door sedan they say struck a Toyota Camry on Aug. 23. The incident was caught on a surveillance camera positioned outside the Brand Cigar Smoke Shop on 226 South Main Street, but the license number was impossible to discern. Police say they will charge the driver with evading responsibility/property damage when they find them.
Police arrested an East Hartford man by warrant on Aug. 28 for violating a criminal protective order, stemming from an incident the previous day. He was unable to post the $250,000 bond, and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 30
Police were called to the scene of a single car crash on Brushy Hill Road on Aug. 29 at around 6:43 p.m. They discovered a Jeep had collided with a telephone pole, but kept on moving, making its way to the driver's home on Cedar Hill Road.
According to the police report, the driver, a 25-year-old man, had been driving under the influence of alcohol, and was charged with DUI, evading responsibility and making a restricted turn. He was releases after posting 7 percent of his $1,000 bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court on Sept. 12.
On Sept. 1, police stopped a 25-year-old Madison man they found behind the Kent House on Mile Hill Road. The trespasser described himself as an "urban explorer," according to police, and was in possession of a sawzall he planned to used to the fence. He discovered the fence had already been cut, and police cited him for simple trespass.
