Vehicle Theft, Burglaries Reported In Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown Police are investigating a vehicle theft and several vehicle burglaries. As always police remind residents to lock their vehicles, keep the keys out of them and secure valuables.

Below is a summary of police activity from Jan. 9 to 16.

• Multiple unlocked vehicles were entered in the overnight hours Jan. 9 on Horseshoe Ridge. Multiple items were reported stolen.
• A 2017 silver Honda CRV was stolen from Indian Hill Lane during the overnight hours between Jan. 15 and 16. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.
• An unknown blue vehicle struck a parked and occupied vehicle in the Big Y parking lot Jan. 12 between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The blue vehicle left the area. There was some minor damage and paint transfer to the other vehicle.
• Several mailboxes on Crabapple Lane were vandalized on Jan. 11 during the overnight hours. The mailboxes were ripped out of the ground and left on the owner's property or moved to another location.

Arrests

• Paul Berard, 53, of Newtown was charged with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane after a motor vehicle stop on Church Hill road Jan. 13.
• Jeremy Currier, 31, of Sandy Hook was charged with second-degree failure to appear after a motor vehicle stop Jan. 10.
