Video: Newtown High School Softball Captures 1st Conference Title In 21 Years
After many tries, Newtown's varsity softball program finally captures South-West Conference title
After going 20-0 during the regular season, Newtown High School entered the playoffs as the favorites. They didn't disappoint as they beat Lauralton Hall 4-1 at the South-West Conference Championships held in Stratford.
Coach Bob Guerrera said the team's strengths are in the close bonds players have with each other, led by pitcher Kate Bowen. It's a sweet victory for Guerrera who, for the past five years that he has coached this program, has come close to winning the championship, but never coming through until this year.
Watch the final moments of the game and listen to Guerrera talk about the team in this video.
