WATCH: Hillary Clinton Says 'We Need a President Who Will Put Sandy Hook Families Above the Gun Lobby'

Clinton attacked Sanders in Thursday's Democratic debate over comments he made about the Sandy Hook families' lawsuit against Bushmaster.

SANDY HOOK, CT — The Democratic presidential candidates went head to head on Thursday in Brooklyn in a heated debate on CNN.

Fox News reported that Clinton said she is concerned about the recklessness and greed of gun manufacturers and dealers while Sanders is more concerned about Wall Street.

When moderator Wolf Blitzer asked if Sanders owes Sandy Hook families an apology for his comments in a New York Daily News interview last week he said, "No, I don’t think I owe them an apology. They are in court today, and actually they won a preliminary decision today. They have the right to sue, and I support them and anyone else who wants the right to sue.”

In the Daily News interview Sanders was asked if the victims of a crime with a gun should be able to sue the manufacturer and he said he does not. Sanders went on to say:

"In the same sense that if you're a gun dealer and you sell me a gun and I go out and I kill him, do I think that that gun dealer should be sued for selling me a legal product that he misused? But I do believe that gun manufacturers and gun dealers should be able to be sued when they should know that guns are going into the hands of wrong people. So if somebody walks in and says, "I'd like 10,000 rounds of ammunition," you know, well, you might be suspicious about that."

A judge ruled on Thursday to allow the lawsuit by Sandy Hook shooting victims' families to proceed against Bushmaster, the manufacturer of guns used by the shooter who killed 20 children and six educators on December 14, 2012.

Erica Smegielski, daughter of the late Sandy Hook Principal Dawn Hochsprung, said Sanders does owe the families an apology. She tweeted during the debate calling Sanders insensitive and disrespectful:

Clinton said, "We need a president who will always put families above the gun lobby."
