Waterbury Man Arrested After Alleged Assault In Newtown: Police

Police said the suspect allegedly fled after an assault and was later located following a crash.

NEWTOWN, CT — A 25-year-old Waterbury man was arrested Sunday after police said he allegedly assaulted someone in Newtown and fled the scene before later crashing his vehicle in Naugatuck.

Newtown officers responded June 21 to Plaza South on South Main Street for a report of an assault in which the suspect had already left the area.

Police said the man was later located on Route 8 in Naugatuck after crashing the vehicle he had allegedly fled in. He was taken into custody by Newtown police.

He was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and reckless driving.

According to police, he was released after posting bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on June 22.
