Weather Forecast Forcing Newtown Parks & Rec Event Cancellations

NEWTOWN, CT — All Newtown Parks and Recreation activities at the schools are canceled this evening at all schools, due to weather, according to an alert issued by the town.

This includes Newtown Youth Basketball, Newtown Torpedoes Swim Team and all drop-in programs at the schools.

This does not include Newtown Youth Academy at this time nor any other off site locations.

The Newtown Parks and Recreation Commission meeting is canceled for this evening. The sports field use meeting will be at the February Commission meeting.

A powerful storm is forecast to dominate Connecticut's weather beginning late Tuesday afternoon.

The state could see up to 4 inches of rain, flooding issues, up to 70 mph wind gusts, thunderstorms, and widespread power outages.

Meteorologists expect the storm to exit the state Wednesday morning.
