Weekend Police Blotter, Dec. 17 - 19

Berkshire Road: A Ford pick up truck on Berkshire Road making a left turn onto Wasserman Way, driven by John Schmalbach, 62, of Hickory Hills Road, Brookfield, struck an Acura sedan driven by Christopher Wolcott, 24, of Hickory Lane, Sandy Hook, while crossing oncoming traffic at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, police reported Dec. 30. Schmalbach was issued a written warning for an improper turn. No one was hurt.    

Boggs Hill Road: A Honda driven by Marc Delorenzo, 36, of 147 Boggs Hill Road, Newtown, crashed off the roadway while traveling north on his street near Willowbrook Road at 6:58 a.m. Saturday, police reported. Delorenzo, who escaped injury, was charged with making an improper turn and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Church Hill Road: A person who apparently lost a black and silver I-Pod while at the Figs Restaurant, 105 Church Hill Road, Newtown, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday would like it back, police said. Anyone who finds the item may call the Police Department at 203-270-4255.

Dodgingtown Road: A Dodge, operated by Maxmillian G. Biga III, 40, of 145 Skokorat St., Seymour,  rear-ended a Volkswagen, operated by Mark J. Sullivan, 49, of 42 Hillendale Drive, New Milford, on Dodgingtown Road by Jacklin Road, at about 11:15 a.m., Friday, police said. Biga was treated and released at the scene. Sullivan was taken to Danbury Hospital for an evaluation. Biga was issued an infraction for following too closely.

Gary's Plain Road: A Monroe man was arrested on a drunken driving charge after police responded to a complaint about an erratic driver on Gary's Plain Road, in Sandy Hook, at 11:48 p.m. Saturday. Raymond Gomez, 45, of Cannon Way, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive right, police said. He was released on $50 bond, pending an appearance Jan. 4 in Superior Court, Danbury.

Hawleyville Road: A deer ran into the passenger side of a car driven by Diane Villodas, 57, of Tower Road, Brookfield, while she was driving north on Hawleyville Road near Barnabas Road, Newtown, at 7:32 p.m. Friday, police said Monday. The driver was not injured.

Lakeview Terrace: Charles Brooks, 20, of 7 Stone Gate Lane, Newtown, was charged with making a restricted turn after the Honda he was driving south on Lakeview Terrace crashed in the woods off the northbound shoulder near Gelding Hill Road at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police reported. Police said he was not injured.

Mt. Pleasant Road: On Mt. Pleasant Road, a car driven by Kevin J. Hadden, 44, of Windgate Circle, Monroe, was struck in the rear by a car driven by Richard R. Rau, 82, of Longview Heights Road, Newtown, at 9:14 a.m. Friday, according to police. Police said Hadden, traveling west, had stopped for traffic at Suzie Drive when the crash occurred. Rau, who was not hurt, was charged with following too closely, while Hadden, who received treatment for injuries at Danbury Hospital, was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, police said.

Sugar Street: A car driven by John Minalgo, 54, of Scudder Road, Newtown, traveling west on Sugar Street, struck a deer at 9:08 p.m. Sunday, police said. Neither he nor his passenger, Patricia Minalgo, 46, also of Scudder Road, were injured, police added.

Wasserman Way: A juvenile was arrested on marijuana, alcohol and other charges during the weekend police sobriety checkpoint on Wasserman Way. The juvenile was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol by a minor, violating curfew and passenger restrictions and making an improper turn, police said. Police also reported issuing warnings to many drivers for various motor vehicle infractions. Details were not disclosed. The checkpoint was conducted from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday on Wasserman Way at Trades Lane.
