YACKO AND SONS TREE SERVICE CELEBRATES THE FOURTH OF JULY!

Today we celebrate our Nation’s Two hundred and thirty eighth birthday!  Have you ever studied the evolution of our United States Flag as we know it today?  Believe it or not the true origin of the first American flag is uncertain! Some historians believe it was designed by New Jersey’s Congressman Frances Hopkinson and sewn together by Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross.  We do know from literature cited from “The Public Broadcasting Service” that on June 14, 1777 the Continental Congress passed an act establishing a new flag for our new nation with thirteen stars and thirteen stripes; alternating white and red to represent the original thirteen colonies that succeeded from Britain’s rule. The flag colors also have noted significance beginning with white the color or purity, cleanliness of life and rectitude of conduct.  The flag color blue represents the color of heaven, reverence for God, loyalty, sincerity, justice and truth.  The color red represents valor, zeal and fervency.  The stars represent dominion, sovereignty and lofty aspirations.   In 1791 Vermont and in 1792 Kentucky were added to the Union, giving two additional stars and stripes to our flag.  As more states became part of the Union Congress in 1818 enacted that the United States flag would be thirteen stripes representing the original thirteen colonies and one white star to represent each state of the union.  On August 3, 1949 President Harry Truman officially declared June 14th as our National Flag Day.

There are several places where the flag must fly 24 hours daily either by presidential proclamation or by law

Other interesting points where our United States Flag has been planted; in 1963 Barry Bishop placed the U.S. Flag on top of Mount Everest, and on July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong planted the U.S. Flag on the moon!

We truly live in a blessed nation and we should be proud of our flag and our nation which is filled with freedom, liberty and justice for all.  Today, the United States offers us choices and opportunities others only dream of.  Today, as we celebrate the birth of our great nation, may we pause for just a moment and reflect on what our flag represents and how much sacrifice so many have given for us to say that the United States of America is truly the home of free and the brave of this world we live in.  Forester Jeff is proud to be an American!
