3 Questions for Fire Chief Bill Seward: Dec. 7
Chief Seward on North Branford firefighters' training, clearing fire hydrants and giving back during the holidays.

North Branford Patch: What's new at the North Branford Fire Department?
Fire Chief William Seward: Members of the Department that successfully completed the CT Fire Academy's Rescue Core Training are now enrolled in the 40-hour Confined Space Rescue Technician training program along with our mutual aid partners from Branford Fire Department. This training is being partially funded by a regional Assistance to Firefighters Grant awarded to both departments in 2011. Upon completion members will be qualified to provide technical rescue operations not only in town but to other jurisdictions that do not have such services. Personnel have volunteered to become members of this elite team.
North Branford Patch: What's something residents need to know?
Seward: As winter arrives in just a few weeks and with the possibility of snow falling, residents should seriously consider assisting the fire department by clearing snow from around fire hydrants. Access to a positive source of water that is free from built up ice and snow can drastically improve the time it takes to operate in hydrated areas of the town.

North Branford Patch: What's your favorite way to give back during the holiday season?
Seward: My favorite way to give back during the holiday season is to be sure those less fortunate are able to provide for their families and loved ones. Take the time to donate winter jackets and clothing to local distribution centers, provide canned goods to soup kitchens and always support activities that assist our veterans.
