3 Questions for Police Chief Matthew Canelli: Feb. 19

Chief Canelli talks about North Branford Police Department's two new officers, safe winter driving and more.

North Branford Patch: What's new at the North Branford Police Department?
Police Chief Matthew Canelli: Officer Corey Lemmons and Officer Chris Miserendino – who where hired to replace retired Sgt. Chris Manner and Officer Len Popolizio in July of 2012 – have just graduated from the police academy (one from Meriden and the other from Bridgeport) and are currently undergoing their 400-hour, state-mandated obligation of field training. During field tarining, they are teamed up with a certified field training officer at all times. Once field training is completed, they will be able to go on patrol on their own and answer calls. They are expected to complete field training by March or April.

North Branford Patch: What's something residents need to know?
Police Chief Matthew Canelli: Residents are cautioned as winter begins to wind down, extra precautions should still be taken when operating vehicles.  Snow packs historically will begin to melt as the days get above freezing, creating black ice after sunset.  Take extra precautions like leaving early for your appointments, observing the speed limits and having a cell phone with you so you can call for help should you become invovled in an accident or stuck.
