NORTH BRANFORD, CT — The North Branford Fire Department Co. 1 was dispatched at 6:29 to a reported shed fire, the department posted on Facebook.
When firefighters arrived at 14 Chidsey Drive, they encountered a "fully involved 10 x 20 garage in the rear of the property."
"Engine 1 laid in from the nearest hydrant and stretched two 1 3/4" attack line," the department wrote on Facebook.
The fire was knocked down within just a few minutes and the incident was placed under control, firefighters said, adding one person was evaluated by the medic unit on scene.
Units turned the incident over to the North Branford Fire Marshal's office for investigation.
In the Facebook post, the shed's owner praised firefighters.
"I want to sincerely thank the firefighters of the North Branford Fire Department for your quick response and hard work in putting out the fire at my shed. Your professionalism, dedication, and courage helped prevent even greater damage. My family and I are truly grateful for everything you do to keep our community safe. Thank you.'
And they also heaped praise on the passer-by who summoned help.
"I would also like to extend a special thank-you to the garbage truck driver from Bozzuto’s who noticed the fire and called it in. Your attentiveness and quick action made a real difference and helped get emergency responders to my home as quickly as possible. Thank you all for looking out for our community. Your efforts are deeply appreciated."
