NORTH BRANFORD, CT — "Apparently, when Detective Miller starts asking questions, the best travel destination is Connecticut," North Branford police said.
On Dec. 22, 2025, the North Branford Police Department received a fraud complaint from a local business reporting a loss of more than $20,000, according to NBPD Chief of Police James Lovelace.
"The North Branford Detective Bureau, with Detective Craig Miller as the lead investigator, immediately began working the case," he said. "Over the following months, Detective Miller obtained and executed numerous search warrants, followed the evidence, and ultimately identified the suspect as 24-year-old Jermaine X. Carr of Charlotte, North Carolina."
Miller obtained a fully extraditable arrest warrant for Carr, Lovelace said.
"At some point, Carr apparently learned that Detective Miller was on his trail and made the decision to do something we don't see every day—he flew to Connecticut and turned himself in," Lovelace said. "We would like to think that was a coincidence. Detective Miller would probably disagree."
Sunday, Carr arrived at Tweed New Haven Airport, where he was met by Detective Miller and taken to the North Branford Police Department, booked and processed, and held on bond, Lovelace said.
Monday, Carr was taken to court in New Haven, where he was arraigned on the following charges: first-degree larceny, first-degree forgery, and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny.
"We are grateful to everyone who assisted with this investigation, especially the New Haven State's Attorney's Office and the members of the North Branford Police Department Detective Bureau," police said.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges listed are based on probable cause and do not constitute a conviction.
