Cub Scout Pack 462 Sends Thanks After Cake Auction

Cub Scout Pack 462, Northford, recently held a Cake Auction to benefit the Boy Scouts' Friends of Scouting Program. The auction had been scheduled for a Saturday, but needed to be rescheduled for the next Sunday due to snow. This left the pack in a bind because the auction included a cake decorating contest and the judge was unable to make the new date.

With less than an hour to go before the event, we still had not found a judge. On a whim, I decided to go over to Milani Bakery, across the street from where the cake auction was being held at St. Andrew's Church. I figured if anyone would be qualified, it would be someone from our local bakery. It was a long shot, because we didn't think that anyone would be able to help us on such short notice.

As I walked in and explained the situation, Tullio was just about to leave the bakery. To our great joy, he actually changed his plans and came to spend his free time as our judge. That, to me, is the sign of someone who truly cares about the community they are a part of. Because of this, our cake auction was an amazingly successful one, raising over $400 for disadvantaged boys to participate in scouting programs. With Tullio's help, we were also able to recognize the hard work of our scouts and their parent bakers.

Tullio was very thorough in his assessments of the cakes and really looked at the details. He was kind enough to praise all the scouts for their efforts. We, in turn, would like to praise him and Milani Bakery. They saved the day for us and showed the scouts what community service really is about. Thank you from all of us in Pack 462!

We would also like to thank our sponsor, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Northford, for use of their hall and facilities. In addition, our appreciation goes out to all of our parents, scouts, families and friends who made this event possible and such a success.
