That was the nickname we used back in middle and high school to express our boredom living here in North Branford. I can remember wishing that there was more to do around here, but I never wanted to replace the cows as I rather enjoyed looking at them as I drove the back roads to go see a movie in the next town over. Unlike a lot of my peers, I never left this town. I chose to live home and commute to college, got married and decided to stay here permanently, building a house only minutes from the farm where I grew up.
Our agrarian past and present is a big part of why I want to raise my children here. There are farms that have been owned by the same families for centuries and there are relatively new. True to our New England heritage, our local farms have a wide variety of offerings throughout the year: strawberries, plants, corn, tomatoes, peaches, milk, baked goods, hayrides and corn mazes, apple and pumpkin picking, Christmas trees, and maple syrup are all grown and made right here in North Branford. Greenhouses, dairy farms, beef, organic, pick your own... it's all right here.
I love that agriculture matters in North Branford. People regularly talk about preserving the of our town. We have an active Agricultural Commission, the celebrates our farmers, and the school system .
