Me And My Big Mouth!

once again my motor mouth has gotten me in trouble....or has it?

There are times when I should maybe keep my big mouth shut. Last week I blogged about my bucket list and one of the things on my list was to write a novel. My oldest daughter never reads my blog so I told her about it. She was intrigued as she loves creative writing and she had no idea I wanted to write.

Later that week she came home from school all fired up by something her language arts teacher had told her. There is an online challenge to write a novel during the month of November, yup you read that right, you write a novel in 30 days.

There is a website dedicated to the crazy people that do it, and believe me, there are thousands of people that do it! You pledge to write a 50,000-word novel during the month of November and they offer you support and words of encouragement. All around the country people get together in book stores or cafes for writing marathons (you may want to avoid Panera Bread in North Haven on Saturday night as a four-hour marathon is scheduled so the tables will be full and all the outlets will be taken up with their laptops!)

Naturally my daughter signed up, she’s 16 and a junior in high school, but she figures she can juggle writing 1,667 words a day with homework, chores and her job. I believe her, too. Last year she played field hockey and took AP history and kept her grades up.

Being a supportive mom, I congratulated her on taking on such a great challenge, I told her I was proud of her, and then it happened. She threw down the gauntlet, “You should do it Mom.”

Gulp. I had put it out there that I wanted to write and just congratulated her on juggling everything so she could do it, so to turn around and tell her I did not have the time seemed like a lame excuse.

So you won’t see much in the way of blogging for the next few weeks, and if you see me sitting in Dunkin Donuts with my laptop, you know what I am doing!
