Detectives are working hard to identify pending or unsolved cases that could be related, regardless of jurisdiction. Much of that will be influenced by the Office of the State Medical Examiner and the State Forensic Laboratory’s findings. The victim’s gender, age and ethnicity are unknown at this time.

Originally two severed legs were found next to a fence near the State Street Railroad Station on Court Street. They had socks, but no shoes, according to the New Haven Independent.

The search expanded and police discovered the arms in a plastic bag that was sitting on a ledge below the Chapel Street Bridge near Union Avenue. The area is near the train station, I-95 and New Haven’s harbor.

“After closer examination of the bag containing the arm, it has been determined there are actually two arms,” Hartman said. “Both are missing their hands.”

Cadaver dogs were brought to the scene to search the surrounding area for any other body parts. Officers guarded the multiple scenes overnight and the search resumed in the morning. No additional body parts were found Thursday.

Officials from New Haven Police Department, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department, Amtrak Police Department and Connecticut State Police were involved in the search.
