It seems lots of people are becoming famous because of their blogs. You must have seen at least one of the stories on the news about parents saying outrageous things about their kids on their blogs, or publicly humiliating them under the guise of discipline.
Earlier this year a mom wrote a piece that appeared in Vogue magazine that she thought her 7 year old daughter was overweight so she put her on a diet. In the magazine she had changed the child’s name to protect her identity….but surely anyone that knew the woman could figure out which kid she was talking about? The piece went viral and the mom ended up on the Today show defending her actions.
A British mother wrote an editorial for a newspaper stating that even though she loved her children, she wished she never had them. She’s 57 and her kids are grown so they must have read the article. If they didn’t they could not have missed the TV coverage of her confession, it even made it onto the news over here.

Then there are the people that have no life…so they decide to live someone else’s. Robyn Okrant of Chicago lived the entire 2008 following Oprah’s “rules” from what she ate to what she wore; it was all from Oprah’s magazine, website or show. Of course she blogged about it and then wrote a book about her experiences. I wonder if she was hoping it would be a selection on Oprah’s Book Club?
Inspired by A.J. Jacob’s best-selling book “A Year of Living Biblically”, pastor Ed Dobson decided to devote a year to living like Jesus. He ate what Jesus ate (no mixing meat and dairy), stopped shaving and visited prisons and bars.

The most famous blog is probably Julie Powell’s The Julia Project. She spent a year cooking 524 recipes from Julia Child’s book Mastering The Art of French Cooking. The blog was turned into a Hollywood movie starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. This morning on the Today show there was a segment about a woman that wrote a book about her year living like Martha Stewart, I wonder if she did jail time too?
So I have thought long and hard about my blog. Sure I have a couple of followers but I have a kid going to college, I could use making a few extra bucks. As I don’t hate my kids or regret having them I can’t blog about that. Besides, one day they will be choosing my nursing home so it’s probably not a good idea to tick them off. So I have decided I am going to devote a year to living like one of my favorite TV chefs; Gordon Ramsey. I’m Scottish so I have an extensive vocabulary of curse words, I like to cook and I like to boss people around so it can’t be that hard.
So if you see me around town dropping the f-bomb or yelling at people, it’s all for research.
