Need Help With Heating Costs? North Branford Social Services Can Help

The Energy Assistance program helps homeowners and renters to offset costs of keeping warm this winter.

NORTH BRANFORD, CT —North Branford residents who are interested in applying for Energy Assistance to offset heating costs this winter may do so with the town's Office of Social Services, the Office of Community Renewal Team, online or via mail.

Here's what you need to know from the Town of North Branford, Office of Social Services Energy Assistance

Energy Assistance Required Document Checklist
Information you must know:
1. Birthdates of all household members
2. Social Security numbers of all household members
3. Landlords name, address, and phone # (if applicable)
4. Fuel Vendor (oil/propane/kerosene) Call your vendor before your appointment, ask if they participate

Bring Copies or originals, no documents will be returned, no copies made
1. Proof of Disability (Letter from Social Security, TPQY or Physicians Certificate)
2. Current Rent Receipt, lease, or mortgage statement (does not need to be paid)
3. If heat or electric is included in your rent, it must state so on the receipt or lease)
4. Current Natural Gas bill if you heat with natural gas
5. Current Electric bill, even if you do not heat with Electric
6. Current Water bill if your water source is with RWA
7. Proof of Income (4 consecutive weeks within the 3 months prior to your application):

  • Social Security Direct Deposit from your bank statement
  • Unemployment Compensation payments from the Department of Labor webpage
  • Paystubs or Letter from Employer on Letterhead signed and noting each individual week of gross income
  • Self-Employment Form
  • Veterans Pension (direct deposit on bank statement)
  • Workman’s Comp, dated gross amount for each week
  • Income from rental property
  • Pension, gross stub or 1099
  • Alimony/child support-front page noting plaintiff and defendant and page noting amount and frequency. Direct Deposit if it notes child support. Child support enforcement document or Family Relations document.
  • Tips, dividends, annuity distributions, interest income, estate of trust income, royalties, money from friends and relatives, lottery winnings.

Categorically Eligible
For those households receiving TANF, SNAP, State Supplement for the Aged, Blind or Disabled, Refugee Cash Assistance or SSI you will be determined income eligible with a Benefit Letter, no other income documents are needed for any members of the household. All other requirements and documents must be met and provided.
