NORTH BRANFORD, CT—Sunday night, shortly before 7 p.m., with the temperature around 11 degrees, the North Branford Fire Department was summoned to Westwind Drive for a reported structure fire.
Within two minutes of the call for service, Truck 1 and Engine 11 were en route, and two minutes after that, Medic 44 arrived. Firefighters found "fire showing from the roof around the chimney." They also learned right away that the occupants had escaped the building.
Once Engine 2 arrived on the scene, a line was stretched, opening up the walls around the chimney, firefighters reported on Facebook. Next, Engine 11 and Truck 1 arrived and stretched a line to the second floor and made access to the attic space, firefighters reported. A second crew went to the roof, the fire department's social media post reads. The fire was contained to the attic and void space in the roof and chimney areas, and the "incident was placed under control" in just over 35 minutes.
