North Branford Election 2016: Kennedy, Candelora Prevail

Before you head into the voting booth on Election Day here's information on all the candidates, polling places and more.

Update: Democratic incumbent Edward Kennedy Jr. (12th Senate) and Republican Vincent J. Candelora (86th House) both won re-election, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State's office and the New Haven Register.

Original story: North Branford residents will head to the polls on Nov. 8 for the 2016 Presidential election.

Polling places in the community, and throughout the state, will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and so far turnout reportedly has bee solid in Connecticut.

On the ballot, registered voters in North Branford will be able to select candidates for president and vice president, United States senator, representatives to U.S. Congress, state senator, state representative, and registrar of voters.

The choice for 12th Senatorial District involves Democratic candidate Edward Kennedy Jr. and Republican candidate Bruce Wilson Jr., the second time the two have squared off. Kennedy is seeking his second term, and is chair of the Environment Committee, ranking member of the Internship Committee, and a member of Transportation and Public Health committees. Wilson is a Madison resident and former Board of Education member.

For the 86th State House District, incumbent Republican Vincent J. Candelora is running against petitioning candidate Vincent J. Mase, who is aligned with the Democrats but decided to run after the nominating process. He is a Northford (North Branford) resident and the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 19.

Republican Paulette C. Hart and Democrat Maryann Manzi are the candidates for North Branford Registrar of Voters.

The candidates for president and vice president are Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence, Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld, and Green Party Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.

For United States Senate, the candidates are incumbent Richard Blumenthal, Democrat, Dan Carter, Republican, Richard Lion, Libertarian, and Jeffrey Russell, Green Party.
