North Branford Man Charged With Branford Burglary/Home Invasion

Branford police say a neighbor's quick call to police led to the suspect's arrest within an hour of the break-in/home invasion.

An alert neighbor is being credited with helping Branford police solve a daytime burglary on Patrick Lane Tuesday.

Police responded to the home at 12:30 p.m. today after a neighbor observed a suspicious vehicle back into a driveway on Patrick Lane, someone other than the homeowner go to the rear of the home and then return to the vehicle and leave quickly, said Police Capt. Geoffrey Morgan.

When police arrived, they found a 15 year-old resident in the home who told officers that he encountered the male intruder inside of the home and that the intruder fled, police said.

After interviewing the neighbor and the resident, Patrol Officers and Detectives were able to broadcast a detailed description of the intruder and his vehicle.

Approximately one hour later, Officer Joseph Harrington, who was working a private duty traffic assignment on Mill Plain Road, noticed the suspect and the vehicle as it passed by the construction zone, Morgan said.

“Officer Harrington and Sergeant Gregory Watrous were able to stop and detain the vehicle and the operator a short time later,” Morgan said.

After a positively identifying the vehicle and operator as the intruder, police arrested Andrew Kaik, 31, of 229 Branford Road, Apt. #437, North Branford.

Kaik was charged with second-degree burglary, risk of injury to a minor, home invasion and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kaik is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court, New Haven Wednesday morning.
