North Branford Police Help Guilford Police Arrest Burglary Suspect: Police

BREAKING: Police said an alert neighbor saw someone breaking into the home and called police, which led to an arrest.

GUILFORD, CT — A man who was observed breaking into a home in Guilford Monday morning was captured after a lengthy search, which ended up with the suspect being caught in a marsh area, Guilford police said. Guilford and Madison have experienced a rash of residential burglaries over the past month.

Assisting Guilford police were Madison, North Branford and Connecticut State Police. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also assisted.

Guilford police said just before 10 a.m. Monday officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the area of Seaside Lane. A white male was seen entering the garage of a home, police said. A neighbor knew the residents weren't home and called police, police said.

Police responded quickly and several other departments including Madison, North Branford and State Police also came to the scene. Police officers and K-9 units searched a marsh area with support from the Guilford Fire Department.

The Connecticut State Police Helicopter was contacted and responded to assist in the search, police said. With the assistance of alert citizens, police were able to limit the suspect's movement and contain him in a smaller area, police said.

"Ultimately the male, who's identity is still being confirmed was located hiding in the marsh," Guilford police said in a news release. "The Pilots of Trooper 1 located the suspect and the Madison Police's Sgt. Baxter and his K9 partner Paco were able to apprehend the male."
