North Branford Town Council Denies Lease for New Food Pantry

The project had earlier been approved by the council.

The North Branford Town Council denied a group of residents their lease proposal to build a food pantry at the old town hall on Foxon Road, WTNH reports.

Lynn Riordan, the organizer, told WTNH news that about 100 volunteers spent 12 hours a day renovating the old hall, as the council had previously approved the project. Riordan also donated $10,000 from her non-profit organization.

However, last night the town council voted 6-3 against the project.

Riordan told the news channel she was disappointed as the pantry would serve about 100 people per week.

Council members said the board voted against the project for financial reasons. According to WTNH, Mayor Anthony Candelora emphasized that the town already has food banks that serve the community.
