Obituary: ​Carlton Platt Jr., 99, of North Branford

He was a Deacon of the North Branford Congregational Church for many years.

Carlton Platt Jr., age 99, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2018 at Guilford House. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Linsley Platt. Carlton was born in Milford, Connecticut on February 28, 1919 to the late Carlton A. and Ruth Comstock Platt.

Carlton worked the family farm until 1950 , when he moved to North Branford. He retired from the New Haven Water Company after 30 years. He was also part of the Forest Management of Lake Gaillard. Carlton loved being outdoors, whether it be working on his house or camping. His greatest pride was helping others. He had 85 years of involvement with the Connecticut Granges, serving as Connecticut State Grange Chaplain for 10 years, as well as holding elective offices in local Granges since 1935.

He was a Deacon of the North Branford Congregational Church for many years, Town Chairman of the Red Cross Blood Drive and Charter Treasurer of the North Branford Scholarship Association and volunteered on many other committees for the Town of North Branford.

Carlton is survived by his son Carlton A. Platt III of North Branford and daughter Dorothy (Roy) Shippee of Foster, RI, two sisters, Lillian Ryan of Maine and Charlotte Platt of Milford. Also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, North Branford on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the North Branford Congregational Church, 1680 Foxon Road, North Branford on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Branford Congregational Church, 1680 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT 06471 or to Camp Berger Trust Fund, Connecticut State Grange, P.O. Box 1393, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
