Obituary: Josephine S. Chiarelli Mironick, 98, of North Branford

Josephine S. Chiarelli Mironick, 98, of North Branford formerly of New Haven and Kensington, CT, beloved wife of 30 years to the late Artim Mironick, as she became a widow at only 52 years old, passed away on March 15, 2023, after a brief illness in CT. Hospice. She was born in New Haven on August 9, 1924 daughter of the late Joseph and Marianna Valente Chiarelli. Josephine graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven in 1942 and went on to graduate from Comptometer School in New Haven. She is predeceased by her six siblings: Stella Primicerio (James), Rose Grant (James), Victor E. Chiarelli (Camille), Mary Johnson (Wilbur), Albert Chiarelli (Nancy ”Nellie”) and Patricia Mironick (Carl, Jr.).

Josephine leaves behind her devoted daughter, Betsy, and her son-in-law, David, whom she loved as the son she never had. She was always proud and grateful for David and the special relationship they shared. She also leaves behind her only grandchild, Christine Moroniti (Nick), and her two great-grandsons, Vincenzo and Luca, whom she adored. She was fortunate to spend the last eight years of her life living with Betsy and David, just three houses away from Christine, Nick, Luca and Vincenzo, which was truly a blessing for everyone. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her great-grandsons, as evidenced by her beaming smile. As much as she adored Luca and Vincenzo, they adored her back just as much. While she leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, her nephew Carl (Kirk) Mironick III, always held a special place in her heart, and was more like a son to her, and she a mother to him. Kirk and his wife, Rose, had been immensely helpful in their support to Betsy and David in caring for Josephine throughout the years.

Josephine could often be found sitting on the front porch during the warmer months, smiling and talking to all the neighbors as they passed. She will be remembered for her loving and caring ways, young looks, and remarkable memory. Family meant the world to her, and she tried to always help them in any way she could. Josephine’s family would like to thank the incredibly caring staff at Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center, Hospital of St. Raphael’s Palliative Care unit, and Connecticut Hospice of Branford for making her final days as comfortable as possible.

Her funeral services were held Monday.
