Obituary: Sylvia Drozdz Belomizi, 85, Of Northford

She cherished family gatherings, especially holidays where everyone came together at her home.

NORTHFORD, CT — (From B.C. Bailey Funeral Home): Sylvia Drozdz Belomizi, 85, of Northford, Connecticut was called home on January 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 17, 1938, in New Haven, the daughter of the late Louis Drozdz and Irene Ferguson Drozdz, Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Northford.

Sylvia was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Leo Belomizi of 52 years, sister Cynthia Wirtz, daughter Elizabeth Belomizi, grandson Christopher Belomizi and her loving pup Hol-Lee.

In her life, Sylvia enjoyed family camping trips, cruises, trips with her late husband Leo, and adventures with her sister Kathy and late brother- in-law Harold Boynton. She cherished family gatherings especially holidays where everyone came together at her home.

In her spare time, she was intrigued by the sky always looking and researching UFO's. She enjoyed catching up on soap operas and older movies, special times on Thursday with her daughter Linda followed by Girl's night, Saturday errands, pistachio cakes, and many house projects.

Sylvia made many friends who adored her while working in retail, most recently at Walmart of Guilford as a cashier for 19 years.

Sylvia is survived by her sister Kathryn Boynton of Wallingford, and children Steven (Cheryl) Belomizi of Exeter, Maine; Linda (Steve) Andree of East Haven; and Nancy Perry of Northford. She leaves behind Uncle Lowell Ferguson of Vermont, many nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was like a second mother to her beloved 10 grandchildren, including Peter and Jeffrey Belomizi who lived with her after their mom Elizabeth passed in 2011. She also leaves behind, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her forever fur and feathered babies: Buddy, Onyx and Huey.

Sylvia's family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Middlesex Hospital for their comfort and care during this very difficult time.

Her family will receive friends and family at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St. Wallingford on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a brief prayer service to be held at noon. Interment will take place at Northford Cemetery in the spring at a time to be announced.
