Obituary: ​Winthrop Palmer Eldredge, of North Branford

Winthrop Palmer Eldredge of Evergreen Woods in North Branford, CT, died on Monday July 16. He was born in New York City on December 23, 1927 to Seneca Dutcher Eldredge and Frances Swan Brown Eldredge. Win’s first wife Elizabeth Lou Eldredge predeceased him in 2000. Win married Patricia Montgomery Eldredge in 2003.

Win leaves his wife Patricia; sons Chris (Pat), Jeff (Nina), and Peter (Marivic); his brother David Eldredge (Joan) and four grandchildren; Tommy, Matthew, Molly, and Kieran, and many nieces and nephews. Win attended the Loomis Chaffee School and Yale University. While at Yale, he was a member of the Fence Club and the Torch Honor Society.

Win raised funds and organized alumni events for both Loomis Chaffee and Yale. Win established deep and lifelong friendships at both schools. He was a Member of the Board of Yale’s class of 1948. He attended the first ever 70th Reunion at Yale in May, 2018. Win served in the 3rd Army Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was decorated with the Silver Star for bravery on the battlefield from 1951-1952. He also received the Korean Service Medal, the Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. Win received his MBA at New York University.

He enjoyed an extensive career as a stock broker. He retired as Vice President at A.G. Edwards in Farmington, CT. Win had a genuine interest in people. He devoted significant efforts to the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, CT during his leadership as President and as a lifelong Trustee. An avid sportsman, Win excelled in squash and tennis. He enjoyed singing, and playing the piano, ukulele, and harmonica. He was a member of the Pensacola Yacht Club and Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford, CT.

Win was a kind person with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh, always maintaining his optimism and love for life. A Private Graveside Service with Military Honors is planned for family in Mystic, CT. Friends are invited to a Memorial Celebration of his Life at 11:00 A.M. on September 22, 2018 at Evergreen Woods in North Branford, CT.
