Spring Can Take Its Time

I am actually glad that spring is taking a slow approach this year - I just finished a 60 degree braid quilt and also completed one for the Touchdown Club as a raffle/giveaway, plus I just learned to crochet and I am making potato chip scarves in NB purple - really cute! I have to start a wedding quilt which needs to be complete by end of June and get 2 baby quilts going. UGH. However I did find some time to sprout my peas indoors. Last year I had a horrible time with all the woodchucks and rabbits that wanted a free lunch, so this year I am hanging everything I can. For those who are plagued with similar issues, here is what I did with my peas:

  • I bought a 10 pack of nylon knee highs in beige
  • I filled each with about 1.5 cups of potting soil/compost mix
  • I knotted the stocking where the soil ended and flattened it into an oval
  •  I snipped little holes (3-4) in the stocking, widened each with a chopstick and carefully inserted my pea plants
I then hung them on my trellis. In order to keep away any aerial marauders (like the squirrels) I also hung used CDs randomly near the new plants. I sure hope this works - otherwise I give up!
