Vaccinations are not just for kids!

Currently the number of adults who are up to date on the recommended vaccinations is low.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued immunization schedules for adults aged 19 and older.  Vaccines are recommended for all adults based on factors such as age, travel, occupation, medical history, and vaccines they have had in the past.  It is true that some diseases are becoming rare in the U.S. but it is still reasonable to keep vaccinating.  If we don’t continue to vaccinate, diseases that are unknown today would make a comeback.  Before long we would see epidemics of diseases that would be out of control.

Millions of American adults go without routine and recommended vaccinations each year, which leads to an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 preventable deaths, thousands of preventable illnesses, and $10 billion in preventable health care costs each year.

Vaccinations are one of the best ways to put an end to the serious effects of certain diseases.  To see what vaccinations the CDC recommends for you follow the link below to take a quick quiz that you can bring to your doctor or local health department, with the vaccines you need.  Take the quiz today. – Gean Brown, RN.
