Vehicle Possibly Connected To Fatal Hit & Run Found, Seized: PD

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — Investigators located a green 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara in Killingworth that has "damage consistent" with the hit-and-run last Saturday that killed Douglas Clark of North Branford, police said.

On Monday, the North Branford Police Department Detective Bureau "developed information" about the vehicle that struck the 52-year-old man, went to Killingworth and "seized and transported it to a secure facility," according to North Branford police Deputy Chief James Lovelace.

A search warrant was approved by the Connecticut State's Attorney's Office, Lovelace said, and with the assistance of Connecticut State Police Major Crimes, the Jeep will be "processed for any and all evidence."

Last Saturday, police said the North Branford 911 Center got a call altering them to a body in front of 27 Branford Road. In what was then a preliminary investigation, police said the person, now known to be Clark, was struck by a vehicle that fled. Police said at the time that the car should have front right damage to the bumper, hood, and windshield.

Lovelace also offered the police department's thanks to "our regional law enforcement partners as well as the community for overwhelming support and assistance during this tragic incident."

"Our hearts go out to our community as we grieve together with the loss of our town resident Douglas Clark," he said.
