$30K Lottery Winner Sold At North Haven Business

A pair of co-workers were surprised to see their "pay it forward" mentality come full circle with a $30,000 lottery prize.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Co-workers Brandon Lane and Stephanie Anastasio try to “pay it forward” whenever they can. Whether it’s helping out a friend or assisting a complete stranger, the pair was certainly surprised to see their good deeds come full circle with a $30,000 lottery top prize.

Last week, the East Haven duo stopped by a gas station on their way home and Lane purchased a “30 Grand” instant ticket. It wasn’t until a couple hours later that he gave it to Anastasio to play. (To sign up for North Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

“I paid for it, she scratched it,” Lane told lottery officials with a smile. “I kept telling her, ‘Play it! It could be $30,000!’”

Anastasio was doubtful but little did she know that a top prize was just play away.

“She started yelling and (nudging) me. I said, ‘No it’s not! No way!’” Lane said with a laugh. “We were just talking about our payments we needed to make!”

The co-workers plan to save their winnings for the future by putting it into a trust. As they received their check, Lane and Anastasio’s faces lit up with complete joy, “This doesn’t feel real right now,” they told lottery officials.

For selling the winning ticket, Eagle Mini Mart II Inc. located on 95 Washington Avenue in North Haven, will receive a $300 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
