Alden Mead Contributors Attract Public Financing
Alden Mead, D-North Haven, qualifies for the Citizen's Election Fund
North Haven -- The Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission unanimously approved Alden Mead’s application for public financing in his run for State Representative from North Haven.
Mead, who has been endorsed by the Democratic and Working Families parties, gathered contributions from more than 150 North Haven residents. No contributor could give more than $100, and no contributor was a lobbyist or state contractor.
“I’m blown away by the outpouring of support,” said Mead. “Our contributors were old friends and new ones, and I’m thankful for their support.”
By meeting the contribution and supporter requirements, Mead’s campaign becomes eligible for $27,500 in public financing. The full list of campaigns approved for financing today can be found here: http://www.ct.gov/seec/lib/seec/press/2014/08132014_press_release_thirteenth_grant_awards.pdf

Mead qualified for financing by raising $5,440, while spending only $242 to raise the funds.
“The state requires candidates to demonstrate a wide breadth of support in their communities before they award the candidate citizen’s election funds,” said Walt Spader, Chairman of the North Haven Democratic Town Committee. “I’m proud of Alden that he has generated the outpouring of support to be granted public financing. This financing ensures that the only constituency Alden has to answer to is the people of North Haven, rather than PACs, single issue lobbyists, or deep-pocketed donors.”
