NORTH HAVEN, CT — Five people were temporarily displaced from a home after a fire on North Hill Road on Saturday night, according to officials.
While crews were responding to the house fire around 7:15 p.m. on July 3, a car accident and fire happened on Washington Avenue near Exit 12 of I-91, according to the North Haven Fire Department.
Arriving crews began an “aggressive interior attack” on the first floor of the house fire, according to officials.
“Due to location, water supply was a challenge and required two engine companies (E1 and West Ridge E6) to lay 1,800 feet of supply hose and relay pump water to the scene,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “The fire had extended into the walls of the building with fire on floors 1 and 2 and heavy smoke and heat in the attic.”
The Hamden Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene, while North Haven received mutual aid station coverage from East Haven and Wallingford, according to officials.
Volunteers from North East Co#4 responded to the car fire along with the Wallingford Fire Department to control the fire and remained at the scene to support the police investigation, according to officials.
“The on call chief officer arrived on scene of the house fire and assumed command and requested additional units to the scene due to extreme temperatures,” officials wrote. “North Haven CERT was on scene and provided critical rehab support for the on scene firefighters. Despite aggressive actions by firefighters that prevented severe damage to the building, Five persons were temporally displaced from the house due to the fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the North Haven Fire Investigation unit.
“Three additional medical emergencies occurred while all units were operating at the house and car fires that could not be answered by the FD.”
