Police said a U-Haul truck was traveling in the center of three lanes, while a Subaru Legacy was traveling in the left lane, and a 2023 KTM 890 Duke R motorcycle was traveling “between the left and center lanes and side-swiped” the U-Haul.

The motorcycle began to lose “directional control and collided in a side-swipe manner” with the Subaru, police wrote in a news release.

The operator was ejected from the motorcycle and hit the metal beam guardrail in the left shoulder, according to police.

Police said the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old Southington man, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The other drivers weren’t injured, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
