Police said the highway was shut down and traffic was being diverted off Exit 12.

A 2018 KTM 390 motorcycle that was being driven by a 17-year-old Wallingford resident drove through the traffic diversion and continued traveling northbound, according to police.

As the motorcycle approached the active accident scene, police said it struck an unoccupied DOT vehicle that was parked in the center lane diverting traffic.

Police said the teen was separated from his motorcycle “causing him to slide across the pavement, then strike a metal beam guardrail post.”

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital for his injuries, according to police.

There were no other injuries reported, police said.

The accident remains under investigation, according to police.
