Freda To Step Down, Calls Serving As North Haven’s First Selectman ‘The Greatest Honor Of My Life’

NORTH HAVEN, CT — In a message to residents, Michael Freda said serving as North Haven's First Selectman over the past 17 years has been "the greatest honor of my life."

The Regional Water Authority and Aquarion Water Authority announced Tuesday that Freda has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for both public utility organizations.

Freda will step down as North Haven's First Selectman at the end of the year.

After the news became official, Freda wrote a message to North Haven residents in a post on Facebook.

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your support and for all of your friendship down through the years," Freda wrote in the post. "Serving as your First Selectman for these past 17 years, over nine consecutive terms, has been the greatest honor of my life.

"Together, we have built a stronger and more resilient community. Your trust through every challenge that we have faced has meant the world to me.

"With it is bittersweet to leave, I will be stepping down as North Haven's First Selectman on December 31st, 2026 to accept a transformative leadership opportunity within the broader public sector.

"My new role as CEO of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, and the Aquarion Water Authority will allow me to serve the public on a larger stage.

"I will always carry our town, its incredible spirit, and all of our residents in my heart.

"Over the next 4 months, a seamless transition will be taking place to ensure stable leadership. I know that our town's future will remain in very capable hands.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the 17 years of partnership, friendship, shared successes, and the incredible support that you have shown to me."
