NORTH HAVEN, CT — A Louisianna woman was arrested on a gun charge after a traffic stop on Route 15 in North Haven on Sunday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said a state trooper was patrolling Route 15 South in the North Haven area around 10 a.m. on Oct. 11.
While parked between the southbound Exit 53 ramps, police said the trooper saw a green Jeep Gladiator towing a camping trailer traveling in the right lane.
"Due to state laws prohibiting camping trailers from traveling on the Parkway, the Trooper maneuvered their cruiser into traffic and followed the Jeep Gladiator," police wrote in a news release. "Upon locating a safe area, the Trooper initiated a motor vehicle stop, using their vehicle's emergency lights and sirens. In response, the Jeep Gladiator pulled over in the area of Exit 51 in Hamden."
The driver was identified by her Louisianna driver's license as 53-year-old Kathleen J. Elliott-Guillory of Vile Platte, Louisiana, according to police.
During the traffic stop, Elliott-Guillory told police that she was unaware of Connecticut's parkway restrictions.
The trooper also saw a gun in "plain view" near the vehicle's center console that was identified as a Ruger Max-9 9mm and later seized as evidence, according to police.
"During the investigation it was learned that Elliot-Guillory did not possess a valid Connecticut Pistol Permit," police wrote. "Elliot-Guillory was apologetic and further explained that she was not aware of state laws in Connecticut regarding the transport of firearms."
Elliott-Guillory was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, and failure to comply with state traffic regulations. She was released after posting a $5,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 13.
