Boy Scout Service project to support and honor Veterans

Boy Scout Elijah Neveski, a member of Troop 608 in Hamden, planned and conducted a comprehensive service project at the Veterans’ Memorial in front of Hamden Middle School on Dixwell Avenue last weekend. For his work, he was thanked by the Veterans in a ceremony on Monday after the Memorial Day Parade.
Elijah and over 20 youth and adult members of Troop 608 cleaned, planted, pruned, edged, and refinished benches at the memorial. Elijah planned and supervised the service project toward obtaining the highest rank in Scouting--Eagle. To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout has advanced through all the scouting ranks from Tenderfoot through Star and Life, has been active in his troop, and has earned at least 21 merit badges. Elijah will take part in a “Board of Review” in the coming weeks as his final steps in earning Eagle.
Troop 608 is very active and scout-led. The troop meets each Thursday from 7:30-9:00 from September through June at Spring Glen Church. They have monthly outings and spend a week each summer at Camp Sequassen. The Scouts plan all the activities and, with the help of dedicated scout leaders, gain valuable leadership, outdoor and overall life skills. All interested boys are welcome to join the troop any Thursday.
