With the recent events in Newtown Connecticut it’s kind of hard to really write about anything. The whole world mourns those 20 little kids and those brave teachers. It is just so hard to even comprehend how anybody can do such a thing. The ultimate in cowardice is the killing or hurting of women and children. The piece of garbage that perpetrated this massacre should have never had his name mentioned or his picture shown. He deserves to me buried in an unmarked grave in an undisclosed location. He is pure evil and pure scum.
But even in this time of heartbreak that we all feel as a nation, and in our eternal struggle as a race to find the tiniest bit of good in all situations, we once again find dogs.
Some how, or I guess almost by design, they can bring a smile to your face even in the worst of times. I have to admit, that sometimes I smile just thinking about my dogs. It was said that the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary would bring her dog to work on occasion and I am sure on those days there was a buzz. Smiles by the dogs mere presence. The night of the interfaith service in Newtown where president Obama spoke, the Red Cross handed out puppy stuffed animals to all the kids in attendance. I’m sure they all couldn’t help but smile upon receiving them. Then there is the group of 10 Golden Retrievers that came to Newtown from a charity group in Addison, Ill. These dogs travel around to different areas hit by all sorts of disasters. From tornados, floods and even areas hit by hurricane Sandy. These dogs, as with all dogs, are non judgmental. They are loving. They create an atmosphere for people to share. They offer a break, albeit ever so temporary, from the events and images racing through your mind. They are calming in the most nerve racking or times. Dogs are mans best friend.

As bad as the world seems today with the tragic events in Newtown I hope these dogs, in these the darkest of hours, make the world just a little bit brighter even if just for a few moments to everybody they meet.
