Broadway Boy Makes Out of Town Directorial Debut
Broadway Boys Member, Mike Backes will make his out of town directorial debut with The Square Foot Theatre's production of RENT.
The Square Foot Theatre Company is thrilled to welcome guest director, Mike Backes, for their upcoming production of RENT November 20-23rd at Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden.
Mike is a member of the acclaimed group, The Broadway Boys, where he has toured the country as a proud member. Some of his directing highlights include East In Red, which was part of The Frigid Festival in NYC and Little Shop of Horrors. He has toured the country performing in the national tours of Rock of Ages, Grease and Footloose, where he played the title role. Other credits include Jersey Boys Original Vegas Cast and Roger in the Long Island Regional Premiere of RENT. He has also toured the country as a proud member of The Broadway Boys.
A beautiful musical loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s RENT follows a group young artists and musicians during a struggling to survive, in New York Cities lower East Side. Each character must battle through their own emotional and physical battles, in the search purpose, understanding, and love. The audience will be captivated as they watch each member of the cast persevere through their daily struggles with addiction, poverty and HIV/AIDS.

The production features a talented cast of adult performers from across Connecticut, directed by Mike Backes with choreography by Jennifer Kaye and musical direction by Alan Dougherty.
Performances are Thursday, November 20th at 7:30pm, Saturday, November 22nd at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 23rd at 2:00pm. All performances will take place at Congregation Mishkan Israel (785 Ridge Road, Hamden).

Tickets are on sale now at sftrent.brownpapertickets.com. Prices are $22 for VIP Seating $15 for adults and $12 for seniors & children (+ applicable service charges) in advance. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $25 VIP, $18 for adults and $15 for seniors & children, if the performance is not sold-out in advance.
The Square Foot Theatre is a local, community-based, non-profit theatre company located in Wallingford and Hamden, but serving all of New Haven County and beyond. Established in 2008, RENT is the company’s 37th production.
