Cinemark North Haven Movie Theater To Be Powered By Clean Energy
A rooftop solar energy project at Cinemark North Haven and XD was recently completed, officials announced.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 365-kilowatt rooftop solar energy project at Cinemark North Haven and XD has been completed, officials from Hartford-based solar energy developer Verogy recently announced.
Cinemark will own the system and use the clean energy it produces to “power a meaningful portion of its operations,” according to a news release.
The 960-module array will “produce 434,285 kilowatt hours of Class I renewable energy every year without generating any emissions and will offset the equivalent of 308 metric tons of carbon dioxide - the amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved by taking about 67 cars off the road each year,” the news release states.

“Verogy has been an incredible partner throughout this process, operating with exceptional execution from beginning to end,” said Art Justice, Cinemark vice president of energy and sustainability. “We are proud to provide our Cinemark North Haven and XD guests with an immersive cinematic experience that is powered by clean, renewable energy, further expanding our portfolio of solar-powered theatres.”
William Herchel, CEO of Verogy, said, “We’re excited to announce the completion of this project and are grateful for the opportunity to work with Cinemark to advance the company’s sustainability goals. Not only will the system benefit the environment, Cinemark will also realize significant savings on their monthly utility bills.”

In addition to the North Haven project, Cinemark continues to “invest in sustainability initiatives in the communities it serves through in-theatre recycling stations, energy efficiency measures such as HVAC retrofitting and efficient lighting, and the integration of solar energy at more than 20 of its locations across the country,” according to the news release.
“Leading the motion picture exhibition industry in energy efficiency and sustainability efforts, Cinemark has won several awards, including the Energy Efficiency In The Built Environment Award from The Alliance To Save Energy, as well as the Innovation Award from Smart Energy Decisions,” the news release states. “The company is also contracted with AEP Energy Partners for 40 MW of wind power in Texas.”
