Convicted Felon Arrested On Gun Charges In North Haven: PD

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A convicted felon was arrested on gun charges Thursday night in North Haven, according to police.

North Haven police responded to the area of Middletown Avenue and Quinnipiac Avenue around 6 p.m. to help with New Haven Police Department with finding a vehicle that was suspected in a shooting in New Haven, according to officials.

“While assisting New Haven PD the vehicle was located on Middletown Avenue at a local bar / ice cream parlor,” North Haven police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Several subjects were detained.”

During the investigation, police said probable cause was established for the arrest of 35-year-old Brian Melendez of West Haven.

Melendez, a convicted felon, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, weapon in a motor vehicle, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held in lieu of a $350,000 bond.

“The shooting investigation in New Haven remains active,” police wrote. “Strong work by both agencies!”
