Creed High School Students Assist Daytime Gardeners of North Haven
Students from Creed Health and Sports Sciences High School, located on Bassett Road, North Haven, worked with the Daytime Gardeners of North Haven to begin preparations for the renovation of the old garden around the Peter’s Rock Park flagpole. The Peter’s Rock Park Association organized a “clean-up” day at the park with the Creed School in order to bring the students out for the day, and to gain their assistance with weeding, gathering trash, and clearing trails. The Daytime Gardeners benefited from the students’ assistance with removal of all the overgrown plant material surrounding the flagpole.
The Daytime Gardeners showed the students how to efficiently dig out the weeds, and how to dig around the root ball of a small tree that needed to be transplanted to a better location. For some of the students, digging in the soil, discovering earthworms and crickets, and pulling weeds, was a first time experience.
The work session built-up good appetites, and the students enjoyed a cook-out at the pavilion area. It was a successful day for all those involved, combining some heavy work, with good fun and companionship.
